Main Function
The brain stores information, both old and new. This process is called memory and they are stored in different areas of the brain depending on what type of memory it is.
How It Works
When we learn something, the brain creates memories by forming connections between neurons, or nerve cells, called synapses. These synapses create new circuits that essentially remap the brain. The strength of these connections depends on how often we're exposed to an event. There are normal amounts of cognitive decline as we age. However, research does not support the claim that it is inevitable to lose all cognitive ability and nothing can be done about it.
Cause of Weakness
Common causes of decline are medications, pain, depression, anxiety, lack of cognitive engagement such as puzzles and games, lack of socialization, lack of sleep and general rest, poor diet and aging.
Common Problems
Some common problems are short-term memory loss, trouble remembering words, difficulty problem solving, conceptual reasoning and decline of processing speed. There is normal cognitive slowing as we age, however this can be addressed through lifestyle changes, diet, socialization and proper herbal support.
